The EPHS drama department puts on 7 shows a year! that includes Trajectories, Fall Musical, Competition One Act, Winter Play, Spring Showcase, Spring Show, and Broadway Extravaganza. All these shows and the Drama department as a whole is heavily built on student work.
Trajectories
Trajectories is a series of student-written and directed skits along with student choreographed dances. This is a no-cut show so everyone can have an opportunity to be on stage. It is a great way for new students to start in the theatre department! Auditions are in early August and shows are in early September, usually the first week of school.
Fall Musical
The Fall Musical is announced during Drama Awards the previous year and starts early September. Shows are mid-November. The fall musical is a great opportunity to work with a large cast, tech, and pit!
Actors: Auditions are typically held within the first month of school. Students who wish to audition should prepare a 30-60 second to monologue and a 30-60 second excerpt of a song. Students who the directors want to hear more from will be asked to attend callbacks. Soon after that, the cast list is posted. If you are not called back, it does not mean you are not cast, still check final cast list. Rehearsals begin soon after!
Technicians/Costumers/Pit: Tech, costuming, and pit orchestra starts just after cast rehearsals and is a great way to be involved in the show! Tech involves construction, lighting and sound design, as well as shift crew. Costuming consists of helping obtain measurements, gather costumes, working in the dressing rooms, helping mend the costumes or create new ones altogether, and assist with quick changes and last-minute alterations during the show. Pit orchestra is an auditioned group of instrumentalists that provide the music for the cast live during the show!
Winter Play
The Winter Play starts in late November and usually performs at the end of January.
Actors: The Winter Play is directed by Kari Beutz. Auditions are typically 2 weeks after the closing of the musical. Prepare a 30-60 second monologue. Students the director wants to hear more from will be called back and soon after, a cast list is posted.
Technicians/Costumers: Tech starts soon after rehearsals begin. Often there are more opportunities for underclassmen to try new parts of tech that they have not yet experienced. Costumers may get a chance to assist design costumes, depending on the show.
One Act
The competition one act is a unique theatre experience unlike any other at EPHS. The One-Act is a short, one-act play that competes in our district competitions. The set must be assembled in under 10 minutes and the show has to be under 35 minutes. It is a more serious experience in the drama department and gives actors and technicians a chance to grow and compete with other one-acts.
Actors: Auditions are joint auditions with the winter play.
Technicians: Interviews are held usually the same week of auditions. The crew is chosen by head technicians and work closely with the actors.
Spring Show & Showcase
The spring showcase begins late February and the shows are late April. This show is performed in the PAC. The Spring show begins early March and the shows are early May. This show is performed in the auditorium.

Broadway Extravaganza
Broadway Extravaganza is a compilation of student choreographed Broadway dances and vocal performances. It is the final show of school year and is another no-cut show! It is produced and led entirely by upperclassmen students. There are separate auditions for becoming a junior producer, choreographer, dancer, and singer. Auditions are late April and early May. If you wish to dance there is a no-cut policy, so every student can participate in a dance. This is a fun opportunity to be apart of a show if you usually aren’t in theatre and a great way to end the year with friends who don’t do performances. Technicians and costumes usually take this opportunity to be in the spotlight. Broadway Extravaganza brings in the largest cast of the year and is a great way to end the year!
